How Long Does Flooring Installation Take in Tampa Bay?

Once you've chosen your floors, the next question is almost always the same: "How long will this take?" It's a fair thing to ask — you need to plan around furniture, pets, and daily life. After more than 20 years installing floors across Tampa Bay and Pinellas County, we can give you honest timelines instead of vague promises. The short version: most single rooms are done in a day or two, and most whole-home projects wrap up within a week. But the material you choose and the condition of your subfloor make a real difference.

Typical installation times by flooring type
- Luxury vinyl plank (LVP): about 1 day for an average room; 2–4 days for a whole home
- Laminate: similar to LVP — fast, floating installation, 1 day per room or so
- Carpet: one of the quickest — a few rooms can often be done in a single day
- Tile: slower — 2–4 days for a room because mortar and grout need curing time
- Hardwood: 2–5 days depending on whether it's nailed, glued, or floated, plus acclimation
These are hands-on installation estimates. They don't include the prep day, delivery and acclimation of materials, or any subfloor repairs — all of which we factor into the schedule we give you up front.
What happens before the floor goes down
A big part of a smooth, fast install is what happens before installation day. We move furniture, remove the old flooring, and prep the subfloor — and in Florida that almost always means a moisture test and leveling. Many flooring materials also need to acclimate to your home's temperature and humidity for 24–72 hours so they don't expand or contract after installation. Skipping these steps is how a "fast" job turns into a failed floor a year later.
Why we never rush the subfloor
In Tampa Bay, slab moisture and uneven subfloors are extremely common. A proper moisture test and leveling step might add a day, but it protects your investment — and it's the difference between a floor that lasts decades and one that cups or gaps within months.
What can slow a project down
- Subfloor repairs or moisture mitigation discovered during prep
- Removing old tile or glued-down floors, which is labor-intensive
- Complex layouts — diagonal tile, herringbone patterns, lots of cuts and transitions
- Stairs, thresholds, and detailed trim work
- Curing time for tile mortar and grout, which can't be rushed
Tile is the classic example: the installation itself isn't long, but mortar needs time to set and grout needs time to cure before the floor can take foot traffic. That's normal and worth the wait — it's what makes a waterproof tile floor last.
